Design/Research

Continuous design, research and development is a very important part of any product based company today. Evolution demands exploration, change and upgrades resulting in better design and production methods. In many areas this helps the human race to live a longer and more comfortable life. During the last century a tremendous amount of innovation and technical advances were made, but there is still a long way to go.

Seating is an area that has had relatively few technological changes, apart from some areas of office seating. People have been sitting on various types of “stuffing” for centuries, including PU foam which is widely used today. PU foam is very toxic to produce, and this toxin is released when it burns. It is very flammable and difficult to treat. Any stuffing including PU foam is very difficult to clean after liquid spills of any sort. PU foam also holds moisture for a long time and should therefore not be used in an outside, all weather application.

A major step forward in seating design has been achieved by the development of the modern seat membranes. It eliminates the need for any “stuffing” or PU foam, and it actually achieves a much more comfortable and supportive sitting posture, mainly because the contact pressure is distributed over a larger area.

The elastomeric membrane technology used on its own, without foam, was first introduced about 10 years ago. This was made possible because of the newly discovered super elastic fibres, combined with innovative weaving techniques. This new technology is now developing steadily for use in many seating markets. Membranes are being developed for different purposes, from high UV resistance mesh for use in full sun, to elastomeric cloth that can withstand the heavy cleaning procedures of the health care sector.

TecnoSeat (A Division of UES (INT'L) PTY LTD) is strongly involved in research and development, employing a full time experienced design team. In addition to the initial design and development work using CAD and computer modeling, prototypes are milled from solid aluminium using CNC technology. This achieves a very realistic prototype prior to production tooling.

TecnoSeat design staff also designs new and efficient production systems and machines to complement the new and innovative products.

Rigorous testing is applied to all products, and the relevant certificates are obtained, relating to static and dynamic structural tests, fire tests and repetition testing to analyze long term wear factors.

The use of aluminium for all structural elements achieves a very high strength to weight ratio. (Low overall weight represents fuel and energy savings) Aluminium extrusions with the correct alloy and tempering are designed to bend under certain collision situations rather then snapping. The non corrosion quality of aluminium is very important especially in the marine environment.

A unique two frame system allows the upholstery component to be serviced, upgraded or changed without removing the structural frame, under frames, or accessories like arm rests. To be able to remove the upholstery unit for cleaning is also very important especially in the health care industries.

All designs are high tech, innovative and original, and therefore, qualify for and are protected by Patents and Design registrations.

TecnoSeat (A Division of UES (INT'L) PTY LTD) is committed to the design and development of special seating products in areas where it is strongly needed. Creating revolutionary seating solutions, not just for Australia, but also for the rest of the world.
